{guest post} Erika's New Year's Resolutions

I'm so excited to have Erika here today.  Her style is impeccable and I love her design aesthetic and her blog!  And to top it all off, she's just so sweet.

Welcome Erika!

Happy 2012 everyone! Erika from small shop here, so honored that Mae asked me to share a few of my resolutions for the next 12 months. Life gets so busy day-to-day, that it's such a great idea to refocus and reconnect with your goals.

Here's what's ahead for me:

#1: finish my living room!
If you follow my
blog, you know that for some very odd reason this room is like the thorn in my side/home. I have gone through phases (1, 2, 3) and am 90% there. With my beni ourain rug, white Barcelona chair, marble Saarinen table, big art piece, and lots of furry pillows, I am excited for the reveal...stay tuned!

#2: master my iMac, iPad, iCloud & tablet!
New toys are fun, but learning new toys...not so much. I'll definitely be honing my skills and getting organized with these personal and business tools. They're not just for looks. 2012 = efficiency.

#3: weekends: no work, only play!My 3-year-old is in nursery school full-time to allow me to run my graphic design business. Weekends are critical for much-needed family time. So I've got to learn to set boundaries! It's ok not to be everyone's hero...family comes first.

#4: visit my grandfather in Hawaii!
Since my grandmother passed away in 2009 (10 days after my daughter was born...sob), we try to visit as often as possible. But it's been too long. Plus I want my daughter to grow up knowing the culture of my home. (Also up for me in 2012: Vegas in the summer, NYC in the fall!)

#5: grab more opportunities to networkand be creative outside of my client work! The past year was a whirlwind but opened so many doors for me! Getting invited to high profile events, meeting a few of my design idols, and being featured in a major print magazine (LUXE, on newsstands January 17th!) are all things I never thought was possible! I am really aiming to continue this trend in 2012, counting my blessings along the way.
Thank you Mae for having me! This has been an inspirational post for me, and I'm pumped for what 2012 will bring!!

You've inspired me, Erika! Thanks for sharing your resolutions with us!

have a wonderful day,

Such great resolutions Erika! Couldn't agree more about tackling new technology. So time consuming yet so worth it in the end! Your daughter is precious, and you absolutely deserve to spend as much time with her as possible! I hope you find the time for a much deserved trip to Hawaii!

Thanks for having Erika over Mae!

I love Erika's resolutions! Especially the one about focusing on family on the weekends. It can be hard not to run around crazy trying to get things accomplished on our days off, but Erika is right- family comes first!

My favorite one is no work on weekends! Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I spend 24/7 with my little one so I have to hold on every single chance I get to work. I assume that when we return to Toronto, things will be different and I'm so looking forward to lots of family time during the weekends!
