A Skinny, Dirty Party!

All kinds of fun happening today! I'm such a lucky girl!
I got the opportunity to partner with Skinny Cow ice cream to host a screening party for my friends
in celebration of Dirty Dancing's 25th anniversary!

A great big thanks to Skinny Cow for fueling this celebration with lots of ice cream, to Baby & Johnny for the groovin, to my friends for being oh so fun and to Daily Buzz Style for bringing it all together! Here's a little peek at the night's festivities:

Peanut butter & mint ice cream sandwiches (which were delicious by the way!),
popcorn and pretty much every girl's all-time favorite movie. Such a fabulous night!

the best part of the whole movie!

someone who shall remain nameless really enjoyed that mint ice cream sandwich!
the whole night was an absolute blast!

And because the week wouldn't be complete without a little Friday's Fancies dreamin'
I created the modern day version of two of Baby's most loved outfits from the movie

{pink dress // studded heels // white bag :: similar}

happy weekend dears!

As part of the DailyBuzz Style Community,
I received a stipend, DVD, and coupons for free Skinny Cow® product.
All opinions are 100% my own.  Seriously, that was darn good ice cream!

{Friday's Fancies} Outfit Inspiration

this inspiration outfit!
How perfect...yellow, orange and stripes!
What more do you need for summer?

This week's Friday's Fancies is all about taking our favorite outfit from Pinterest and recreating the look our way. There really wasn't much I wanted to change for this perfect ensemble, but I took away the cardigan and added a fun floral scarf. Seriously, amazing.

What are y'all up to this weekend?
I'm heading to a BBQ, organizing, and meeting with a few clients.
And of course, spending time with my dad on Sunday!
Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there!

hope your weekend is sunny and bright,

{loved it. made it.} DIY gold striped acrylic tray

I am absolutely loving anything clear/acrylic/lucite these days
And I've been on the hunt for a tray but the ones I've found and loved have been a little more than I care to pay for a plastic tray.
So my solution: make it! And it was so simple. Seriously, simple.
The key is taking a common picture frame and re-purposing it.
I used an 11x14 acrylic box frame and flipped it around.
So the front side of the frame became the bottom of the tray. Make sense?
Here's what I did:

My supply list was simple: 11x14 box frame, gold paint, tape, brush, Mod Podge

Take the frame and flip it over so the front of the picture frame becomes the bottom of the tray

Tape diagonal stripes, begin in the center and work out to the two sides.
I thought this would be the hardest part but it really wasn't.
I didn't even measure, just eyeball it.

Finished taping!

Brush on the gold paint with a sponge tip brush

Finished the first coat of paint. See how light and see-thru it is?
It took 3 coats of paint to get the desired results for me.

This was the hardest part! Letting each coat of paint dry. It's really critical! So have a cup of tea and wait :)

Ok after all 3 coats are dry, remove the tape!

Ta-da! You're done! Well, almost. This last step is really important.
Make sure to seal the paint with a coat of Mod Podge.
This will ensure that it'll stand up if you use it in the bathroom.
Now you're done!
Here's the finished product

Lessons Learned:
*make sure to really push down on the tape to smooth out all the bubbles,
otherwise the paint will seep through
*if/when that happens, just scratch off the excess paint once it's dry...you can even use your nails
*don't attempt this on the same day you get a fresh shellac manicure
*or else wear gloves

So what do you think? Easy enough, right?
I hope you'll make one too and tweet me a pic!
Can't wait to see yours!

enjoy your day,

{Guest Post} Classics :: Closet + Home

Please welcome Becca!
She is here sharing classics for your closet and your home
Such a pleasure to have this lovely lady guest posting for me today!

Hey y'all! So happy to be here today. Mae's blog (and baubles!) have always been a favorite!
I thought it would be nice to move away from the some of the trendier things
we see around the blog world and show you the classics that you can find in my closet and home.
(ok, some may still be on my wishlist!)

Yes, even classics don't last forever.  Shapes, lengths and fit change.
However, these are basics that have been around in one form another for quite a while.
They are all pieces that I believe will last in your closet for the next few seasons, at least!
Once you have your classics, then you can decide what part of your budget you want to spend
on trendier pieces to keep your closet and home looking up to date and fashionable!
Hope this helps you build the basics, they are oh so important!
Lets get to work, shall we?

kate spade earrings: a perfect classic that will go with anything, and adds just enough pop!
chambray shirt: dress it up or down. pair it with any color or print, this shirt is perfectly comfortable white wide leg jeans: flattering on every body type and will pair perfectly with the tops in your closet lace tank: layer it in all four seasons, batenburg lace is the classic of classics
black skinnies: everyone needs the perfect pair of black pants. great with heels, boots or flats.
black dress: the classic black dress is a must. find one that  can be worn on any occasion
leopard flats: animal print has established itself as a classic. it will add personality to everything. striped top: one can never have too many stripes. they will be "in" forever
gold link bracelet: wear it alone or with an "arm party"
black heels: great with jeans, skirts or dresses and these from Zara are amazingly comfy!
classic neutral couch: is a perfect basic for your living room, add your flair with pillows
original art: is a staple and must have for a room, know your taste and invest in great pieces! (1,2,3)
kilim rugs: have been a great staple from the middle east for decades now
statement bookends: mine are gold horses and I know they will be in my home forever, look to thrift!
ginger jars: are another classic that have been around but are making an even bigger come back
jute rugs: are another great basic that can be used in any room, also great for layering
candles: make a house feel like a home, lit or not they add warmth and a wonderful aroma!

Thanks so much for having me, it was a blast.
Hope y'all come back and visit me at LowLife Couture!

Thanks for your input on the post earlier this week about summer shorts.
I'm excited to check out your recommendations!
Since I've decided to embrace shorts, I got to styling a couple choices around this pair
Love them.

Aren't you loving these pale pink shorts?!

I'll be on the hunt for shorts this weekend.
If you think of any more that I must check out, send the info my way please!
I'm also heading to a going away party and spending some time with my BFF who just came back from her honeymoon!

hope it's a great one!

Stop by Friday's Fancies to check out how other bloggers styled summer shorts

{fashion files} summer shorts

I gotta be honest, I have absolutely no desire to wear shorts this summer.
I can't remember the last time I owned a pair. I just don't like the way I look in shorts.
But man, it's hot! So I decided to get excited about my legs, slather on my self-tanner and buy a pair! ;)
These two pairs have really inspired me...

And really, is there a look of Olivia's that isn't inspirational...

Do you wear shorts in the summer?
Where did you shop for your favorite pair?

Any tips for looking great in shorts?
I'm thinking wedges/high heels are key!

until next time,
