Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body (it makes up approximately 30% of the proteins in our bodies) and is a key component of all connective tissues. Think of it like glue that holds your body together. Collagen provides the infrastructure of the musculoskeletal system which is what allows us to move! Collagen is responsible for many different aspects of our bodies — thanks to this protein, we’re better able to move, bend and stretch. Collagen is also one of the reasons our hair shines, skin glows and nails stay strong. YAS!
There are 2 different types of Collagen: Marine and Peptides. Marine collagen is derived from fish, while peptides are derived from grass-fed beef.
As we age, and the more stress we put on our body, the greater the impact on Collagen production. Getting Collagen in a balanced diet can help our bodies regenerate what’s been lost of broken down. I usually take the powder form and add it into my morning smoothie or coffee. It dissolves perfectly. If I’m adding it to coffee, I use a small handheld frother to make sure it’s incorporated well. But if I’m putting in my smoothie, then my Vitamix does all the work 😉 Collagen is such a perfect supplement because it doesn’t have any taste and you can add it to anything! I add it to pasta sauce and even baked goods. Seriously, the possibilities are endless!
