Dalgona Coffee. Whipped Coffee. TikTok Coffee. Whatever you call it, this delicious coffee drink is taking the Internet by storm in these days of social isolation and quarantine. Whipped coffee is a South Korean drink that’s super simple to make and SO GOOD. I’ve always been a coffee lover but this is a whole new level — decadent, fluffy and sweet. Making whipped coffee at home allows you to control the sweetness and it could not be easier.

I first saw Dalgona coffee on TikTok. I know, I know….I’m way too old to be on TikTok but it’s April 2020 and we’ve been quarantined for several weeks now so there are no more rules 😉 I ordered the supplies (here’s a list of everything you need!), but couldn’t wait until they arrived to make it. So the first time I made Dalgona coffee, I used what I had on hand: Vietnamese instant coffee packets. I’ve been buying these packets for years – Vietnamese and Thai iced coffee is one of my favorites! They are essentially instant coffee (but with a very distinct flavor) and sugar, so I was hopeful that it would work. I also didn’t have any milk on hand (I don’t recommend using creamer) so I ended up making my own plant-based milk just by blending hemp seeds and water in a Vitamin. Super easy! It all came together perfectly. Making Dalgona coffee at home is so easy! I made my first TikTok to show the process, but there isn’t really a recipe to follow — just a few simple steps.

Here’s what you need:

Equal parts instant coffee, sugar, hot water. That’s it!

It’s important that you have instant coffee. You can’t use anything else. Combine all the ingredients together and whisk until thick and frothy. You’ll see peaks form similar to whipped cream. I whisked for about 3 minutes the first time. But then I used an immersion blender and that works great!

Next:

Fill up your favorite cup (I LOVE THESE!) with lots of ice. Pour your favorite dairy or plant-based milk. So far I’ve used hemp milk, almond milk and oat milk. My favorite is a combo of all 3!

Finally:

Top the milk with your whipped coffee and take a photo 😉 Then mix it up with your straw. I also love to top it with cinnamon or cocoa powder! Or even better use this instead of sugar!

I shared the whole process over on TikTok and if you’re like me and don’t want to get suck into watching a million TikTok videos: I posted it on Instagram too! 😉

Have you tried whipped coffee? What do you think?
