Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to transition my skincare routine into more non-toxic / green beauty. I didn’t have much experience with non-toxic skincare, but I had tried to use clean / non-toxic makeup in the past and it just wasn’t as good. The mascara wasn’t as black and bold as I like and the foundation would just melt away and disappear by mid-morning. But I decided to give it another go and started researching the best non-toxic skincare. Well, first of all let me say that I believe that outside appearance very much depends on what is going on in the inside. So, any skincare regime must begin with proper nutrition. Also, I take collagen every single day. This is the best supplement for hair, skin and nails! But since I felt that I was eating properly, I decided to see what I could find to take care of my skin topically. Luckily, my skin is pretty normal. I don’t really break out (unless again I’m not eating well), but I do notice some fine line creeping up. Also, I’ve been noticing that my skin is a little drier than normal so I wanted to be sure to add moisture. So I began my quest to find the best non-toxic, DIY essential oil facial serum — and as any true scientific researcher would do, I took to Instagram! 😉 I found some essential oil accounts and started watching their Stories. I also starting looking up essential oils and other natural ingredients for skincare. I experimented, combined it all together, and finally found the best formula! So let’s do this!
INGREDIENTS
Optional: Rose Quartz Face Roller
PROCESS:
Fill a 2 oz amber glass bottle with Rosehip oil until about 1/3 full. Fill the rest of the bottle until almost full with Aloe Vera juice. (I know it’s not very precise measurement but it works out perfectly!) Add 10 drops lavender and 10 drops Frankincense. And, just shake well. That’s it! The amber bottle set that I ordered came with funnels so it was super easy to get the liquids into the bottle. (And you can use the other bottles to make rollers for on the go!)
Don’t worry if it looks a little funky. First of all, the Rosehip oil is a yellowish color. Also, since it’s an oil, it doesn’t mix all the way with the Aloe Vera Juice. But it’s ok, just make sure to shake the bottle before use.
For the face, I purposely decided to use the Aloe Vera juice instead of a carrier oil like almond or jojoba. Those other oils are bit too heavy for my skin and I love the hydration that the Aloe Vera juice provides.
USE:
I apply the serum every night after washing my face. I don’t rub, I just pat / tap it into my skin. It’s not too oily or greasy and I usually use about 3/4 of the dropper. Again, just don’t forget to shake the bottle to mix before using. I highly recommend following up with the rose quartz roller all over the face. It helps reduce puffiness and improve circulation!
