Self Actualization | How To Create More Self Love, Acceptance & Empowerment

There’s a lot of talk in the wellness world about self love, acceptance and empowerment. All of these are actually components of self-actualization: the fulfillment and realization of our innate talents and potentialities.

And while all the pretty, fluffy words and ideas are great, that stuff is not always easy to implement. We achieve self-actualization through the work that we do daily — the habits we have, the thoughts we think and the world we create around us. We realize our full potential by continually growing and striving. Here are some tips to help cultivate more good thoughts, let go of the limiting self-talk and get things done!

Create a Morning Routine

A morning routine sets the tone for the entire day and helps ensure that you are an unstoppable force! I love my morning routine and it changes depending on what season I’m in. But I always commit at least 10-15 minutes in the morning (that’s really nothing in the grand scheme of the day) to drinking water, saying my prayers, doing my skincare and taking my vitamins. Check out my Instagram Story highlights to see what vitamins and supplements I’m currently. I’ve come to truly love that time in the morning.

Eat Well

I believe that the foods that we put into our body directly impact our emotional and mental well-being. There are studies that show that certain foods can lead to inflammation in the brain and may cause anxiety. Isn’t that incredible? I notice that I always feel better and more empowered when I eat green, clean and whole foods. I certainly love my chocolate as well – but I try to stick to an 80/20 rule.

Practice Positive Self-Talk

I know this is hard. But while you’re stuck in traffic or in line at the grocery store, repeat positive affirmations to yourself. You may feel silly, but if nothing else what can it hurt? These mantras will be different for everyone based on whatever you’re working on. Just Google “affirmations for ____” and you will have tons of great ideas. I believe we can reprogram our brains by repeating these positive thoughts. This is what all these wellness bloggers mean when they say raise your vibration 😉 Also, try repeating affirmations like “I am enough just as I am” — this is a great one for self acceptance.

Create an Evening Routine

I love the idea of burning a candle and spending a few minutes journaling about my day. How cool is this Sacred Smudge from Uncommon Goods, it’s a great cleansing candle with dried sage for positive energy, lavender and lilac crystals! It’s so beautiful and smells incredible. I also try to read for personal development and always say my prayers. Your routines don’t have to be complicated or take a long time. The key is consistency. Speaking of which….

Be Consistent

With everything you do! Your routines, eating well, moving your body, affirmations — just do it over and over. Consistently showing up for yourself and keeping your promises to yourself, trains your brain to know your worth and value. You are important enough to stick to your word.

Move Your Body

I’m not suggesting that you do a 60 minute SoulCycle class and hot yoga everyday but just move. Do what feels good. Walk in nature. Our bodies were designed to move and they crave it. It helps lubricate joints and even helps with mental clarity, emotional balance and focus.
